Civil Air Patrol celebrates 67 years
Adults and young people 12–20 years of age are invited to a celebration of the 67th anniversary of the Civil Air Patrol from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at 2868 Aviator’s Way at the Grand Junction Regional Airport.
The Civil Air Patrol was formed in World War II. Volunteers conducted coastal patrols, looking for enemy submarines, and flew cargo and courier flights. At war’s end, the patrol was designated as the official civilian auxiliary to the newly formed U.S. Air Force.
The local squadron is Thunder Mountain Composite Squadron.
Golden K club elects officers
Golden K Kiwanis in October installed new officers.
President is John Bacheldor, president-elect is Wally Bissinger, vice president is Bob Hanson, secretary is Rich Specht, treasurer is Gary Brown and past president is Muril Vincelette.
Directors are Fred Burmeister, Mike Doring, Mal Graham, Bob Hall and Doug Hawke.
Golden K grants $2,000 to groups
The Kiwanis Club of Grand Junction Golden K on Oct. 15 presented $2,000 checks to each of the following groups: Western Slope Center for Children, presented to Shari Zen, executive director; CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), presented to Shirley Rowe, director; Partners (Mesa Youth Services Inc.), presented to Joe Higgins, director; The Tree House, presented to Cody Moore, executive director, Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado (Child’s Teen Program), presented to Jacquie Chappell-Reid, develpment department.
LIFT-UP delivered Thanksgiving meals
LIFT-UP, a nonprofit organization dedicated to humanitarian services, delivered Thanksgiving meals to more than 1,200 families in Parachute, Rifle, Silt, New Castle, Glenwood Springs and Carbondale on Saturday and Monday.
LIFT-UP has offices and food pantries in Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, New Castle, Rifle and Parachute.
