Rep. Salazar denounces his Web support of public option

Friday, October 23, 2009

A Web site operated by former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean claims U.S. Rep. John Salazar, D-Colo., as a supporter of the public option for health care.

Republicans pounced on the characterization, and a Salazar spokesman sharply renounced it.

The site, www.StandWithDrDean.com, lists Salazar, as well as the other four Democrat representatives as “supports the public Healthcare option.”

Salazar has taken pains to distance himself from the so-called public option unless it was “the only way to pass reform” as he said in the Sentinel last month.

The appearance of Salazar’s name on Dean’s list was enough to spark the National Republican Central Committee to fire off a news release declaring that Salazar “has finally fallen into line behind his radical party leaders with support for their government healthcare takeover.”

Not so, Salazar spokesman Eric Wortman said.

“Any implication that the congressman has signed anything of the sort is nothing but a lie, and I would hope it would be treated as such,” Wortman wrote.

Salazar’s position is unchanged, he said.

“I don’t really think it is a mystery that the congressman would like to see health care reformed and would consider many options in an effort to accomplish reform,” he wrote.

There was no immediate response from www.DemocracyforAmerica.com, Dean’s umbrella organization, about the criteria it used to claim Salazar’s support for the public option, as claimed on www.StandwithDrDean.com.

Howard Dean, a former Vermont governor, also is a physician.

ConservativeLion, what a miserably unpleasant person you are!

I support Medicare for all -it's an uphill battle against the insurance giants and big pharma and the politicians who are financed by them. They are fighting for their profits and their lifestyles, and we are all paying a hefty price for it, especially the sick. For those of you that love your insurance, you've probably never had a serious illness - if you get one, that will surely change your mind.

I stand with Dr. Dean and with Democracy for America. Because death panels are already here, and bureaucrats already do stand between us and our doctors. The death panels and bureaucrats are employees of the insurance companies whose executives get filthy rich by denying people the health care they need and which they've paid for.

Salazar can take a hike.

While we continue to slowly pull the healthcare bill away from the death grip the insurance companies have on it - Olympia Snowe - who cares - the fact remains the insurance companies have been living off of blood money and ripping us off for decades.

We're pissed and the party is over - even their ultra hush, hush anti-trust exemption from 1945 is finally being talked about.

They are scum (that's not hyperbole)and do not care about the economy as a whole or the damage and pain and suffering they have caused regular people. They don't care - too bad you made a typo - have fun dying. We're not sorry YOU got sick - thanks for the policy payments! That's whats going on people and they are finally being called out on their bizarre behavior. They gilded the lilly for so long pushed the premiums up too high. Those of us who have been saying WTF for decades are finally seeing some action on the HILL not because its the right thing to do but because its a huge drag on the economy - freakin' geniuses no duh.

Sportlily; In terms of overall republican philosophy, end result, and answers to address todays issues, you are spot on! I couldnt have said better myself.

fct; Care to show who exactly says any of it will be free? Give me one source from anyone actually working on this legislation that says they think it should be free. You are spouting right-wing talking points, and using fear made from lies to do it. This is typical of folks who have no idea how to actually work to solve problems.

Conservative Lion; So it wasnt the Credit Default Swaps, or the 40-60 to 1 Leveraging of Loans, it wasnt the rampant Wall Street speculation and leveraging of those funds, it wasn't the inflated cost of oil, it wasnt the lack of regulations that kept the approval process more stringent, it wasnt borrowing debt to pay for 2 wars, it wasnt people speculating and inflating real estate prices? It wasnt any of those things that put us where we are today? It was only because the banks were forced to make loans to people (low and moderate income) who they knew couldnt afford them? You are really saying that? I see you have been listening to Rush, Oriely, and Hannity way too much. Here is where you have it backwards, it was deregulation or the lack of comprehensive oversight that allowed those things to happen.

Well regulated Capitalism has proven to work very well. Laissez-faire Capitalism has brought this country to its knees in the past, and it is proving once again just how harmful it can be.

Your debating skills are poor. You said "EVERY SIGNIFICANT MEDICAL ADVANCE IN THE LAST TWO CENTURIES WERE AMERICAN ADVANCES?" I dont see where you included any other countries contribution to medical advances in that statement, do you? Your statement does in fact mean no other countries. In the context you used it, the word "every" excludes all other countries. Nice backtracking on your part by trying to quantify it after the fact. Fail, epic fail for you.

Your death panel comment proves you truly are a sycophant and are willing to outright lie and fear monger in an attempt to sway people. Please, show us the proof of these "death panels".

Grand Junction citizens say a resounding "yes!" to a public option! Senator Salazar, your office gave me the impression you supported it when I called. Stand with local citizens and support a public option.

Republican Health Care Concepts 1. If you can't afford it, you don't deserve it - Even though you'll then just go to the ER, not pay for it and everyone else pays for it anyway. 2. Hey, let's lie and say that the burden for this will be on the taxpayers, even though the guys in the house will have specific ways to pay for it before signing. God forbid it turns out like the last health care legislation, the Prescription Drug Plan, that IS costing us BILLIONS and we STILL don't have a way to pay for it 6 years later. Thanks President Bush (note: I don't like him, but I have respect for my country and that office, so I don't make fun of his name.) 3. If you don't have insurance already, Go work 3 jobs you lazy bum! Jobs are SOOO easy to find right now, that shouldn't be a problem, right? iF you can't pull your own weight, you don't deserve to be healthy! 4. We're on our way to being a (please pick one) Marxist, Communist, Socialist or the most Fearmongering "ist" of your choice society, if we actually even SPEAK about helping other people when nothing's in it for us. We're not REALLY going there, but Boy those words sure are scary, huh? 5. Hey, If we keep yelling loud enough and scaring enough people with stuff we make up (LIES) then we never have to worry about reform passing and we can go on being the only "Advanced" country in the world that actually MAKES MONEY off of their sick people. Remember - Don't get sick. If you do, Hurry up and die. You're cutting into my profits.

Democrat health care concepts:

1. Everyone will get a bunch of stuff for free.

2. It will cost taxpayers nothing.

3. If you have good insurance now, it will get even better and it will cost you nothing.

4. Everything is gonna be just great.

5. Donıt worry. Be happy. Just go watch Survivor. Weıll take care of you.

Shnoid:
Are you REALLY this ignorant? What are you a public school teacher?
The reason the economy collapsed, or nearly collapsed, is PRECISELY government control. Have you not heard of the community reinvestment act? Research it! This ridiculous GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE into private markets is what caused the collapse: it made it illegal for bankers to make market decisions based on actual risk. And yes, I would call all government run healthcare programs marxist or at least socialist. The difference is degree. O-Stalin wants marxism. This is why he advocates a single-payer system--his words. Research it yourself.
I didn't say other countries don't contribute to health care advances. But if you will take time to research it you will see that capitalism has contributed far more to these advances than any other system. When was the last time you heard of a Cuban or Soviet major medical advance.
Death panels are a reality in all socialist medical schemes. They happen in Britian and in Canada all the time. You are a total and complete fool if you deny this obvious truth.

How was the economy doing 15 months ago? What direction were the markets headed? How much more was your house worth then compared to now? You rail against government control, yet deregulation over the last 10-20 years is exactly what got us to where we are now. The government now controls that much because if they didnt, those businesses would not exist any longer and we would be deeper down the depression hole and have that many more unemployed. I find your Marxist argument laughable. Does government control and regulation of health care make Canada a Marxist country? How about England... They are just a bastion of Marxism. Sweden? Do I need to list them all?

Every recent major medical advancement has come from America and that is why we are the "best" in your eyes? Every? Really? You really believe that? While the US has contributed greatly, I am sure the Nobel winners in Medicine and Physiology from France, England, Australia, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Russia, Netherlands, and Switzerland (ill stop there because 2 centuries worth has way more countries than I care to list here) would strongly disagree with you.

The problem with your argument is that it is filled with half-truths and fear mongering. Your reimbursement point is a perfect example. Yes there can be a difference in what a provider charges and what Medicare may pay. But that is better than a private insurer not paying at all. Ever been to a doctors office and seen a sign saying they dont take a certain companies insurance? Why do you think that is? Its because Medicare will at least pay them something for a certain procedure(s), where as that private insurer wont cover it all and the doctors office wont tolerate it any longer.

What is your next argument, the legislation will include death panels?

Shnoid:
Marxism is easy to understand: the government controls or owns everything. (Look it up.) If the health bill passes, and Crap and Betray passes, the government will control between 57-58 % of the economy. Fifteen months ago they controlled 0 (That is zero) %. That's called Marxism.
You want my health care proposal? What does that have to do with the price of tea in communist China? That is a straw man argument: Conservatives have made numerous proposals, but the Stalinistas in the congress won't even allow them to be discussed. (Look it up)
But, the issue for Pelosi, Reid, and Barack O-Stalin is not health care or insuring people. We could insure every single one of those 47 Million people the Messiah keeps talking about for far far far far less than 1 Trillion dollars a year. The point is control: we have had a revolution--but as the pundits who used to spray paint it as graffiti all over town prophesied, it was not televised.
My proposal would be very simple: get the federal government out of the insurance business. Get the federal government out of the car business, the airline business, the bank and mortgage businesses. Get the federal government out of the retirement business and the social service business. Get the federal government out of everything not specifically allowed by the Constitution.
Deregulate interstate insurance commerce to allow businesses to shop for the best rate, the same way you can do with your car insurance.
Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates are only a portion of the actual cost of providing that care--which means providers must take a pay cut every time they provide federally reimbursed services. Where do you think providers must look to as a means of staying in business? That's right, you and I. People who have private or group insurance.
Eliminate federal insurance at all levels and let states provide these services the same way they do for their employees: by shopping for the best deals.
This will drive down costs for the whole. Business costs of providing insurance would drop as well.
You see, that is a little something I like to call Capitalism. You know--that evil thing that Michael Moore hates that provided this nation with the highest standard of living the world has ever known.
By the way, don't be fooled by the BS that we do not have the best healthcare system in the world. We do. Why do you think EVERY SIGNIFICANT MEDICAL ADVANCE IN THE LAST TWO CENTURIES WERE AMERICAN ADVANCES?
Oh yeah, our socialist government provided those advances.
You need to wake up, America. We have had a revolution. It is time for the counter-revolution to begin. If we do not resist this take over, we will have squandered our Republic and the freedom of future generations of Americans.
