Mesa County made an offer Monday to purchase the former City Market headquarters and warehouse in downtown Grand Junction, hoping to consolidate several departments and offices, and free up money for capital projects.

Health half heart2 Scott 02

Fruita Mother Angela Scott smiles at her happy daughter, 14-month-old Addison, who was born with a congenital heart defect and was not expected to live a year.  Addison is one of 40,000 babies born annually with such defects. Scott has initiated a support group that meets for the first time in March.

Little heart needs mending

At 14 months, Addison Scott sputters and coos, opening her mouth and eyes wide to giggle when her mother, Angela Scott, tickles her.

Angela, however, exhales a sigh of relief just because her child is alive. Born with half a heart, little Addison was never expected to live a year.

Jerry Sica of Crossroads Wine and Spirits offers a sample from the new cheese case adjacent to the liquor store.

Jerry Sica of Crossroads Wine and Spirits loves noshing so much that he was driving to the Front Range several times a month just to buy artisan cheese. “There’s just nothing you can buy around here that has any quality to it,” Sica said while gesturing to his new refrigerated cheese case adjacent to the popular liquor store at 611 24 Road.
