Doctor's wife suspected of ramming vehicle

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

The wife of a doctor whose regional offices were raided last month by officials with the Drug Enforcement Administration was arrested on a warrant Friday.

Cheryl Christine Jahani, 47, is accused of ramming her vehicle into the vehicle of another woman during an Oct. 20 incident on a road near her Montrose home.

Jahani faces charges of menacing and attempted second-degree assault, both felonies, and a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

Dr. Sam Jahani’s offices in Grand Junction, Delta and Montrose were raided by DEA agents Oct. 14. DEA officials confiscated medical records but made no arrests.

According to an arrest affidavit for Cheryl Jahani, she and her husband had an argument after he admitted to having an affair of three years with a 30-year-old woman who had worked as the couple’s nanny for 11 years.

Cheryl Jahani told a police officer she was driving away from her home and saw the nanny’s vehicle, pulled in front of it, “nose to nose,” got out of her van and landed with her body on the hood as the nanny “floored it.”

Jahani said she got back into her van and passed her vehicle, striking the vehicle’s rear end.

“I didn’t mean to do it, but didn’t care if I hit her. It was a very emotional thing,” Cheryl Jahani said.

Cheryl Jahani told police she got out of the van because she wanted to see if her husband was in the nanny’s vehicle, the affidavit said.

The nanny told police that Jahani threw herself on the hood of the nanny’s vehicle, and the nanny put her vehicle in reverse, which caused Jahani to fall on the ground.

“(The nanny) said Jahani steered her van into the passenger side rear-quarter panel and tore the bumper off (the nanny’s) vehicle,” the affidavit said.

While the nanny was talking to deputies, Sam Jahani called the nanny twice.

The nanny told Sam Jahani on the phone that his wife tried to kill her.

The nanny denied having sex with Sam Jahani and “had verification from a doctor to prove this,” the affidavit said.
