A Denver man has been accused of stealing expensive electronic equipment from a Good Samaritan’s home and taking radios from Mesa State College.

Phillip James Wright, 20, was arrested on suspicion of stealing about $9,000 in electronics from an Elm Avenue apartment, where he was staying with a friend, and two handheld radios from a custodial closet in Saunders Fieldhouse.

Wright was named in an arrest warrant on suspicion that he attempted to pawn the stolen items at shops in Grand Junction and Englewood. He was arrested in Englewood after attempting to pawn the Mesa State College radios there, the affidavit said. The radios were valued at $1,800 each.

Wright was booked on suspicion of 14 felony offenses, including second-degree burglary, first-degree trespassing of a dwelling, theft and identity theft.

According to an arrest affidavit, a 20-year-old man in August told police he had allowed Wright and Wright’s girlfriend to stay at his apartment in the 1200 block of Elm Avenue for no more than five nights, per policy at the complex. The couple stayed for a week, left for about a week and then came back to stay for a week.

They were then asked to leave, but returned when the renter left town for the weekend, the affidavit said. During that weekend, they stole electronic equipment and pawned it, the girlfriend told police.
