Armed Redlands pickup hijacker sought

Grand Junction police are looking for a carjacker who commandeered a pickup at gunpoint, struck the owner and fled with the vehicle.

The driver reported the crime from St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand Junction police spokeswoman Kate Porras said.

The driver was treated for minor injuries and released, Porras said.

The man told investigators he had just visited an ATM on the Redlands on Nov. 23 and was leaving in his truck when a man approached and pointed a gun at him, Porras said.

The assailant got into the pickup and drove the victim to an area near the Redlands Parkway bridge.

There, he told investigators, the assailant struck him and fled in the truck.

The man described the assailant as a white man between 40 and 50 years old who had brown hair and a full, bushy beard.

The assailant was between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build. He wore a blue denim jacket with wool lining.

The truck is a blue 2008 Toyota Tundra with Colorado license plate 611MIU.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 241-STOP.
