Autism conference Saturday at Two Rivers

Parents of children with autism can attend a free conference Saturday at Two Rivers Convention Center.

The Connections Conference was organized by the Autism Task Force, a group of local parents, community agencies, school district personnel, physicians and service providers. The 5-year-old task force hosted a conference for parents last fall as well.

The conference will include lunch, a poster session and workshops on topics such as strategies for teaching children and keeping them from backsliding in their nonverbal skills. The keynote speaker will be Chantal Sicile-Kira, an author and expert in the transition of people with autism from adolescence to adulthood.

Parents were asked to register for the event by the end of September in order to place a $10 down payment on lunch. The money will be refunded to those who attend.
