Rental car theft alleged

• A Grand Junction man was arrested Monday after he allegedly stole a rental car from a woman and eluded police when they attempted to arrest him, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department said.
Michael Andrew Batt, 37, 1630 Dolores St., also had three outstanding warrants for identity theft, criminal impersonation, first-degree forgery and various traffic and other offenses.
According to an arrest affidavit, a deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for traffic offenses near 28 1/2 and B 1/2 roads Monday evening but the vehicle, driven by Batt, took off. Deputies eventually located the car and learned that Batt stole it from a woman who had rented it earlier this month from Thrifty Car Rental on Horizon Drive.
In addition to the warrants, Batt was jailed on suspicion of second-degree auto theft, criminal impersonation, possession of drug paraphernalia, eluding police and careless driving.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department:

•  Russell Anthony Catalano, 42, 820 Rood Ave., was arrested Monday on suspicion of identity theft, theft of less than $500 and unlawful possession of a financial transaction device.

•  Allen Ulibarri, 43, address unknown, was issued a summons Monday on suspicion of theft after he reportedly stole merchandise from City Market, 200 Rood Ave.

•  A thief forced entry into a medical office in the 400 block of Kennedy Avenue on Monday and stole property valued at less than $1,000.

•  A thief entered a kiosk at Mesa Mall and stole less than $500 in cash on Monday.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department:

•  Tristen Leann Schell, 23, 15723 57 1/2 Road, Collbran, was arrested Monday on suspicion of theft of between $1,000 and $20,000.

•  A man living in the 3200 block of Bunting Avenue reported Monday that someone caused $600 in damage to the windshield and side mirror on his vehicle.

•  A man reported Monday that someone stole a cordless drill valued at about $300 from the back of his truck while it was parked in the 200 block of Huffer Lane.

•  A man living in the 400 block of Pera Street reported Monday that someone broke a window in his truck, causing $300 in damage.
