Natural resources expert to speak Nov. 3
• Jack Kirtland of the Colorado Department of Local Affairs will be the guest speaker at the Natural Resources in the West seminar at 4 p.m. Monday at the Saccomanno Lecture Hall at Mesa State College. Kirtland will discuss local government service delivery capabilities and how they affect energy and mineral production. The seminar is free and open to the public. For information, call 248-1689. League of Women Voters potluck Nov. 10
The League of Women Voters of Mesa County will have a potluck dinner and program at 6 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Redlands United Methodist Church, 527 Village Way. The guest speaker will be Dr. Tim Casey of Mesa State College who will discuss “Spectacle of Politics: Symbolism and Substance in American Politics.” For information, call 243-1318.

Palisade marching band places at state
• The Palisade High School Marching Band finished eighth in the Colorado Bandmasters 3A State Marching Band Championships. Drum Major Kevin McDermott earned top honors and was named the 3A State Champion Drum Major for 2008.
Imagination Library kicks off Nov. 15
• The Mesa County Library will launch its Imagination Library with an open house at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 15 at the main branch. Parents in the 81501 area zip code are eligible to register in the program, which provides free books each month to children until they reach 5 years old.
