Cheers: The Long Ball
The Long Ball
Step away from the Dirty Hippie and try a John Daly.
In fact, if you’re pulled into a microbrewery by your wife and aren’t much into beers, don’t be afraid to ask for something non-beerish, as I did at Palisade Brewing Co., 200 Peach Ave.
Sure, they have good beers, or so I’m told. I won’t dispute that. But they also know how to make something else that, for me, is less filling ... and tastes great.
It’s called a John Daly. Don’t ask me why, ‘cause I don’t really care. It’s not on the menu or posted anywhere in the place, and I have no idea if I’m even spelling it right.
For all I know they could be referring to “Long John” Patrick Daly, the professional golfer, who also has a golf clothing line, “Loud Mouth.” (Oh, and “Long John” refers to his drives. Sorry, ladies.)
Anyhoo, the drink is kind of like a Long Island Iced Tea. It’s a mixture of sweet tea vodka, iced tea and lemonade, and it’s surprisingly good.
The drink is similar to the Tipsy Arnold Palmer (yes, another golfer), but without the mint.
Try it. It may improve your golf game.
And if it doesn’t, you soon won’t care.
