County scheduling H1N1 vaccinations for kids

The Mesa County Health Department will begin scheduling appointments for H1N1 flu vaccinations for young children at 7 a.m. today.

This week’s vaccines will be limited to children between the age of 6 months and 35 months. Some additional vaccines will be distributed to health care providers.

The health department will make 500 appointments today and Wednesday. All appointments will take place between 2 and 7 p.m. each day.

Vaccinations are available by appointment only. Appointments can be made online at http://www.health.mesacounty.us by clicking on the red “appointment” button and selecting a desired appointment time and date, then clicking “confirm.” An appointment is required for each child a person wants vaccinated.

Appointments also can be scheduled by phone. Call 683-6636.

Mesa County Health Department Director Dr. Michael Aduddell said he believes the health department is reaching its goal of vaccinating high risk groups in a timely manner.

High priority groups include young children and pregnant women.
