Dave’s the rave
Some guys have all the luck.
Those guys would be anyone named Dave who hoofed it down to Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que on Sunday for a free meal.
The restaurant, 2440 U.S. Highway 6&50, offered the freebie at all of its chains’ locations, in celebration of the founding of the eatery by Dave Anderson, said Chris Kincaid, kitchen manager at the Grand Junction location.
“It brings people back,” Kincaid said of the offer. “People are shocked and surprised. They’re like, ‘I wish my name was Dave.’ “
As of noon Sunday, about 25 Daves, Daveys or Davids had filtered into the restaurant, many with family and friends in tow.
David Sloan knew he where he wanted to go to lunch Sunday after reading about the offer. Sloan and his wife were already big fans of the restaurant’s food.
“It’s hard to be friends with a Dave,” Sloan’s friend, Steve, lamented in jest.
Sloan and his wife were already fans of the food and took advantage of a similar deal last year.
Sloan’s son, whose has a middle name of David, asked his parents why David couldn’t be his first name.
Daves could receive free meals, but those with middle names of Dave could receive half off or $7.50 off a meal price.
“We’re not complaining; we’ll take it once a year,” Sloan said.
As if Daves aren’t favored enough once a year at the restaurant, any Dave can receive a free, domestic beer on Sundays.
That brings its shares of Daves to belly up at the bar, bartender Josh Jimenez said. Ironically, no Daves work at the restaurant.
“It’s nice to be appreciated to have the name Dave,” Jimenez said. “I think it’s nice that you can save a few bucks in this economy.”
