Diabetes Counts summer schedule released
Diabetes Counts, a local group for kids with Type 1 Diabetes and their families, has nine activities planned for this summer.
Network coffees for families of children with Type 1 Diabetes will take place May 19, June 16, July 21 and Aug. 18. Each coffee gathering will take place from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Cups Coffee and Bistro Library at Hospice Care Center, 3090B N. 12th St.
Kids with Type 1 Diabetes and their families can get pizza and a slice for $6 June 9 at Nick-n-Willy’s Pizza, 683 Horizon Drive, and enjoy a swim party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 24 at Lincoln Park Pool.
A free Back to School BBQ will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. July 27 at Grand Shelter at Canyon View Park. School nurses will be at the barbecue to answer questions about diabetes treatment at school and an American Diabetes Association representative will discuss the ADA’s Safe at School Program, which ensures diabetics get the care they need at school.
On Aug. 25, students can visit with a guest speaker and bicyclist from Team Type 1 who has Type 1 Diabetes. A time has not been set for the event, which will take place at The Bike Shop, 950 North Ave. Students can visit with the speaker while eating dinner Aug. 25 and enjoy a bike ride Aug. 26 during the Community Hospital Tour of the Valley, Team Type 1 Ride, beginning at the Doubletree Hotel, 743 Horizon Drive.
