Expert on energy-efficient buildings at GJ conference

An authority on energy- efficient construction techniques will speak Friday in Grand Junction.

Joseph Lstiburek is a principal of Building Science Corp. and a forensic engineer. He heads one of four Building America program teams for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Lstiburek has conducted forensic investigations and served as an expert witness on building failures all over the United States. His expertise includes air barriers, vapor barriers,  rain damage and mold and microbial contamination of buildings.

Lstiburek will be the keynote speaker at the Energy Star conference at the Clarion Inn, 755 Horizon Drive. The conference will focus on the design, construction and sale of structures that are safe, healthy, durable, comfortable and energy efficient.

The conference is sponsored by Better Energy Advocates. It will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The $85 registration includes lunch. Registration and more information is available from Better Energy Advocates, 275-2717.

The conference is intended for builders, contractors, real estate agents, lenders, planners, engineers, architects, elected officials and building-materials sellers.
