Fruita man wins novice paint horse title

John Zeldenthuis of Fruita won the All-Around Novice Amateur title and world championships in Novice Amateur Hunt Seat Equitation and Novice Amateur Showmanship at the 2012 American Paint Horse Association World Championship Paint Horse Show.

The show took place
Nov. 7-17 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Zeldenthuis claimed the championship showing Maybe Tomarno, a 2001 gelding that he owns, according to a release from the paint horse association.

He showed Maybe Tomaro in three additional classes to tally the most points in his division.

Novice amateurs are competitors aged 19 and older who do not compete or train horses professionally and have not yet earned a specified amount of points in association-approved events, acording to the news release.

Zeldenthuis purchased Maybe Tomarno earlier this year, and the two had only competed in three shows together prior to the World Show, the association reported.
