Health and Wellness briefs: Oct. 18, 2016

Story starts here

HopeWest and the Grand Junction Veterans Healthcare System are hosting a free screening and discussion of the PBS program “Being Mortal.” All community members, caregivers, nurses and physicians are welcome to attend.

You will be part of a national dialog taking place in our community that asks, “Have you and your family had the tough conversations and planned ahead?”

“Being Mortal” delves into the hopes of patients and families facing terminal illness.

It follows a surgeon, Dr. Atul Gawande, as he shares stories from the people and families he encounters. When Dr. Gawande’s own father gets cancer, his search for answers about how to best care for the dying becomes a personal quest.

“Being Mortal” underscores the importance of people planning ahead and talking with family members about end-of-life decisions.

For more information on this event, please call Mary Jo at 263-2800, ext. 2737. For more information on “Being Mortal” events, visit HopeWestCO.org.

WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 27, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: GJ Veterans Health Care System, Community Living Center Dining Room, 2121 North Ave.
