Additional CNA classes scheduled
Additional evening certified nurse aide classes are scheduled to begin Jan. 14.
Classes will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday for six weeks. Classes cost $945 for the full course, although Mesa County Workforce Center clients may be eligible for tuition reimbursement.

Hospital earns orthopedic care award
Denver-based consumer information company Healthgrades has given Five-Star awards to Community Hospital for its overall orthopedic services.
The award is based on clinical performance data related to 30 common conditions and procedures. Community received Five-Star awards for its performance on joint replacement, total knee replacement and hip fracture treatment procedures. Healthgrades ranked the hospital third overall in orthopedic services in Colorado.
Community also received a Five-Star award for treatment of sepsis in critical care and for gastrointestinal procedures and surgeries. The hospital is ranked fourth in the state for general surgery and gastrointestinal services.
Free Dental Day served 127 customers
Grand Junction dentists Julie Gillis, Duane Weenig and Gene Perino served 127 patients during the third-annual Free Dental Day on Nov. 9.
The event offers free dental service to people who could not otherwise afford care. During this year’s Free Dental Day, dentists performed 117 extractions, 50 composites and crown build-ups, 42 dental cleanings and periodontal debridements, 10 fluoride treatments, 10 periodontal surgeries and several X-rays, exams and oral cancer screenings. Sixteen flu shots were administered as well.
The services offered on Free Dental Day, if the dentists had charged for them, would have cost patients a total of $73,648.
