More than 30 balloons rose over southern Utah from Jan. 17–19 for the 16th annual Bluff International Balloon Festival. The event included an arts fair and chili cook-off, events for children and a Navajo taco sale, but the stars were the balloons.

They glowed against the indigo night sky outside the Bluff Community Center and rose with the sun in Valley of the Gods. They drifted along in quiet brilliance, floating blooms amid the rocks and sky.
