June 2014 Yard of the Month

Paula Loshbaugh and her husband, Ed, at 662 28 Road, enjoy splashes of color from clusters of flowers in their 2014 June Yard of the Month. Paula says she learned to garden from her grandmother who lived in Collbran.

Tucked away on 28 Road is a gem of a garden, and right now it is at its summer best. Cool green grass is surrounded by splashes of color from clusters of flowers.

It is hard to believe this garden doesn’t have a grand design. Homeowner, Paula Loshbaugh, admits this with a laugh.

She learned to garden from her grandmother who lived in Collbran and vowed to have a garden just like that one.  It is a garden of memories and friends.

Mrs. Loshbaugh remembers the first plant she ever received, the pain of having to remove an aster that she planted for her daughter’s birth month, and the friendship of gardeners who have given her plants.

Paula has a never-ending fight with Bermuda grass. A friend of hers told her the secret to getting rid of it … move. However, Mrs. Loshbaugh does have this gardening tip.

Enjoy the process. Gardening is about finding what plants you can grow and for a true gardener, the garden is never done.

Yard of the Month is presented by the Grand Junction Forestry Board, The Daily Sentinel and the City of Grand Junction.  Nominations for the July Yard of the Month are due July 24.

The Loshbaughs will receive a gift card from T4 Tree Services.
