Man dies in custody of Jefferson County deputies

GOLDEN — Jefferson County authorities are investigating after a 55-year-old man who was making suicidal threats and appeared to be on drugs died while being transported in a sheriff’s patrol car.

The sheriff’s office says in a news release that officers were called to a home in Conifer on Sunday morning and found the man carrying a BB gun. Deputies say they shot him with a stun gun when he refused their orders.

The man, whose name has not been released, stopped breathing in the patrol car and was pronounced dead at the scene after medical personnel attempted CPR.

The coroner’s office is trying to determine the cause of death.
