May Yard of the Month
Marcia Hutson, who lives at 642 Grand View Drive, starts off the 2013 Yard of the Month recognitions with the May Yard of the Month.
This is the second time in two years that Hutson’s yard has been given this designation. She had a sign placed in her yard and received a $25 certificate to Home Depot.
Hutson is a humble and knowledgeable gardener, who does all of the yard work herself. She started planting and cultivating her yard in 2001 and never looked back. Not only does Hutson have a green thumb around her home, but she loves to spread the joy of gardening to her friends and family as they come to her for assistance and advice.
“I don’t garden to win any awards. I do it because I love it,” Hutson says.
Yard of the Month is presented by the Grand Junction Forestry Board, The Daily Sentinel and the city of Grand Junction.
Nominations for the June Yard of the Month are due June 24.
To qualify for Yard of the Month, the yard must be within the Grand Junction city limits. The front/side yards — what can be viewed from the street — will be judged on appearance, tidiness as evidenced by pruned, trimmed and shaped foliage, defined lawn, borders, flower bed and visual appeal.
