Medicare enrollment deadline approaching
Wednesday is the deadline for new or existing Medicare participants to enroll in the federally funded health insurance program.
Medicare enrollment is required annually for those who participate. The annual enrollment deadline moved from Dec. 31 to Dec. 7 this year to allow pharmacies to have more time to process plan changes, and the last-minute, plan-processing crunch would arrive before the holidays.
Information about enrollment, which has been open since Oct. 15, is available at 1-800-MEDICARE (633-4227) and Medicare.gov. The website details 43 different Medicare plans available in Grand Junction.
Medicare coverage comes in different forms. Medicare Part A provides insurance for hospital costs. Part B is a medical insurance plan. Part C is a combination of hospital and medical insurance, and Part D covers prescription drugs alone. Wednesday is the enrollment deadline for 2012 enrollment in any of these types of coverage.
