Mother faces 4 murder charges in 2 kids’ deaths

CASTLE ROCK — Authorities say a Colorado woman accused of killing her two young children faces four counts of first-degree murder.

A prosecutor said today that 41-year-old Kelli Murphy faces four murder charges because investigators have two theories about how 6-year-old Madigan and 9-year-old Liam died. The prosecutor refused to elaborate.

Murphy appeared in a court in Castle Rock south of Denver today for a 15-minute hearing. She’s being held without bail.

Police say she called 911 Monday morning and said she was going to commit suicide and that her children were in heaven.

Police say they found the children dead when they went to the family’s home. The cause of death is being determined.

Court documents show Murphy and her husband, Robert Eric Murphy, were going through a divorce and bankruptcy.
