Pet comedy good. Dancing with dogs bad, really bad

There are many things pet lovers should not do and dancing with your dog is one of them. I’m OK with stars dancing and dogs dancing with other dogs but not people and dogs.

I was horrified to see Animal Planet’s two-hour special “Dancing with Dogs” last Saturday. Well,

I was horrified, and I almost died laughing.

Middle-aged women in spandex should not dance with poodles. Those poodles looked terrified of being stepped on. It was uncomfortable to watch.

This is TV, people, it should not be taken lightly.

In my opinion, the expert on the humor behind people who love their pets to the extreme is Chris from cutewithchris.com.

His Web site combines two of my favorite things: comedy and cute animals.

First, I would like to thank the check-out dude at Borders for suggesting cutewithchris.com and not laughing at me when I purchased the 2009 Cute Overload Desk Calendar.

Dude, thanks for not judging my purchase that day, and the Web site is totally awesome.

The calendar will be super sweet come Jan. 1, too.

You know, I came real close to suggesting in Out & About’s Suggestion Box that people peruse cutewithchris.com.

I almost did it.

I almost wrote 100 words or so, but then, the more I thought about it, I thought, nope, I better write more.

Chris is a comedian in Los Angeles who dissects on video the e-mails and photos he gets of people’s pets. Then he post the video to his site. You might think watching six minutes of someone talk about all the kooky cat ladies out there might get boring, but it doesn’t. There’s the lady from Buffalo who e-mailed him a photo of her cat thong and the teenage girl wearing cat ears who threatened him if he didn’t make her his assistant. I like it. It makes people like me feel more normal.

Maybe you don’t know this, but the holidays are here and pets need presents, too. Recently, I’ve gotten a bunch of crazy weird e-mails about things you can buy or do for your pet for Christmas.

I’ll call this column: “Things that are meant to be cute that are not really cute but actually quite creepy.”

• The Animal Planet two-hour special “Dancing with Dogs” tops the list.

•  There are lines of designer fragrances for dogs. Don’t believe me, check out sexybeaststyle.com. I don’t want my dog smelling better than me. Right now, she smells like dog and I’m just fine with that.
Bamboo Pet has a Holiday Spa Collection including Fur Butter or Fur Worse conditioner and Fur Breeze spray. Mmmm citrus.

•  Do the holidays have your feline friend feeling frazzled? CatIt Design Senses has created a Feline Stress Buster machine designed to stimulate all of a cat’s senses, including massagers for 517 cat muscles and a Peek-a-Boo Track that simulates a hunting experience. It looks like a washing machine crossed with a gerbil maze.

•  “Rambo” themed retractable leash ... where have you been all my life? At http://www.26barsandaband.com.
