Outfit: Homemade costumes

Save time and money this year by making a Halloween costume from items you already have around the house.

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Basket of laundry — Cut a hole in a laundry basket just large enough to fit on your hips. Fill it with clothes and attach some dryer sheets to yourself with safety pins.

Dice — A great and inexpensive costume for two kids. Use black and white paint on two large boxes and you are ready to roll.

Rag doll — A kid’s costume made from an old sleeper. Just add patches and a stocking cap with scraps of fabric for “hair,” red cheeks and freckles and your outfit is complete.

Black bat — Take the innards out of an old umbrella and cut the fabric into wings then attach to a black leotard. This costume can also be modified into a spider using the same leotard. Stuff black tights for the legs and attach them together with yarn.

Have fun creating a unique costume.

Happy Halloween!
