Poets to be featured at First Friday

Providing poetic inspiration for a new year, well-known western Colorado poets Luis Lopez and Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer will be the curators for the show Make It New: Poets Take the House at The Art Center, 1803 Seventh St.

A creative First Friday event, Make It New will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at The Art Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Poets with very different perspectives and approaches to their work — LadySpeech, Frank Coons, Shawnee and Wendy Videlock and Stewart S. Warren — will perform.

During the event, Peg Oswald will play Native American flute music in the Atrium Gallery. The Grand Junction Hand Drummers will open the event in Studio Colorado.

Continuing exhibits at The Art Center are “Shepherd — Clay Vessels 2012/Randy Fee — Heroes,” through Wednesday, Jan. 23; “Images from Tibet,” paintings by Christopher Z.Y. Zhang, through Friday, Jan. 25; and “It’s About People — It’s About Faces,” The Outsiders, through Wednesday, Jan. 23.

Make It New will offer hors d’oeuvres and a cash wine and beer bar with celebrity bartenders Caole Lowry, DJ Strangefellow and Bernie Buescher.
