Pope John Paul II Academy relocates
The Pope John Paul II Academy has relocated to its permanent home near the intersection of Sunnyside and 6700 Road in Montrose, and the school’s 67 students and 10 teachers started school in the new building earlier this week.
The Catholic school opened in 2008, leasing the school building belonging to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for its first five years in operation. An anonymous benefactor purchased and donated the 21 acres on which the new school now stands. A $187,000 donation from the local Knights of Columbus, and funds from other donors enabled the Academy to break ground last year.
The Academy will host its annual benefit today at the new building, featuring a live and silent auction, live music and a catered dinner. Keynote speaker is Kevin Roberts, president of Wyoming Catholic College. Tickets are $30 for adults and $20 for children.
