Slather mustard on burgers off the grill

Happy May Day! Here we go, kicking off a busy month with JUCO frenzy, graduations, fishing for the big ones, picnics in the park and in the backyard.

It’s also the official beginning of summer barbecue and burger season. The aroma of burgers on the grill that spreads through the neighborhood says it’s so. Who cares about the calendar.

Let’s celebrate this time-honored season with mustards: Honey, Spicy Brown, Dijon, Honey Dijon, Wine Dijon and so many more.

For well more than a hundred years it’s been French’s Classic Yellow Mustard. Is it in your fridge?

Set up a “burger bar” with a variety of mustards, veggies, buns, cheeses and these delicious topping recipes.

Horseradish BlEU Cheese Burger Topping

1/4 cup French’s Horseradish Mustard

1/4 cup mayonnaise

3 ounces crumbled bleu cheese

2 teaspoons chopped fresh chives

1 clove garlic minced

1 1/2 pounds ground beef

1/4 cup French’s Classic Yellow Mustard

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

12 slider rolls

Mix ground beef, mustard, cheese, garlic salt and pepper. Shape 12 patties.

Grill burgers over medium-high heat to clear juices and 160 degrees internal temperature.

Serve burgers on slider rolls with extra mustard.

 

Curried Honey Mustard Topped Burgers

Tip: This recipe may easily be doubled when making sliders for a crowd.

3 tablespoons plain Greek nonfat yogurt

2 tablespoons French’s Classic Yellow Mustard

1 tablespoon honey

1/4 teaspoon curry powder

Combine yogurt, mustard, honey and curry powder.

Great on beef, veggie, turkey or chicken burgers.

 

Creamy Mustard Sage Burger Topping

1/4 cup mayonnaise

1 1/2 teaspoon French’s Spicy Brown Mustard

1 teaspoon honey

1 teaspoon roasted garlic or 1 clove garlic, minced

1 teaspoon fresh minced sage

Combine mayonnaise, mustard, honey, garlic and sage. Serve on burgers.

 

Classic California Burger

2 tablespoons French’s Honey Dijon Mustard

2 tablespoons mayo

2 tablespoons lite sour cream

1 pound ground beef

2 tablespoons French’s Classic Worcestershire Sauce

1 1/3 cups French’s French’s French Fried Onions

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

4 hamburger rolls, split and toasted

1/2 small avocado, sliced

1/2 cup sprouts

Combine mustard, mayonnaise and sour cream.

Combine beef, Worcestershire, 2/3 cup French Fried Onions and seasonings. Form 4 patties. Grill over high heat until juices run clear (160 degrees internal temperature). Place on bun with mustard sauce, avocado slices, sprouts, and remaining onions.
