Mavs sitting in second in Montana

The Colorado Mesa University women’s golf team finished Day 1 of the Yellowjacket Spring Invitational with 340 strokes, good for second place.

Michelle Stripp carded an 80, firing a 40 on both nines, to pace the Mavericks, who sit 17 strokes behind tournament host Montana State University-Billings going into today’s final round. Stripp is in fifth place individually, with MSU-Billings’ Melissa Saken leading the field at 78, and three golfers tied for second at 79.

Torrie Sauer and Audrey Meyer both shot 86 for Colorado Mesa. They’re tied for 16th place, Zoe Woodworth’s 88 is tied for 22nd, and Lucille Van Vooren is tied for 25th with an 89 for the Mavericks.


Colorado Mesa’s Kristyn Wykert is the RMAC women’s tennis player of the week.

The sophomore from Laramie, Wyo., was 2-2 in singles and 3-1 in doubles last week for the Mavericks. She had wins over Dixie State (Utah) and Holy Names (Calif.).

Maverick Club

The public is invited to the Maverick Club Coaches’ Luncheon at 11:45 a.m. Monday in the Colorado Mesa University Center ballroom.

The luncheon is $10 for Mav Club members and $15 for non-members.
