■ Two area residents received degrees from University of Iowa: Mauricio Cardona of Delta received a juris doctorate, and Joshua Mark Hulst received a doctor of medicine degree.

■ Reid Jackson of Glenwood Springs graduated July 26 with a bachelor’s degree in physics from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif.

■ Melanie Mosinski of Grand Junction was named to the spring 2013 semester dean’s list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.

Back-to-school event at mall

Simon Property Group Inc., the parent company of Mesa Mall, will sponsor its annual Simon Kidgits Club Back-to-School event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at Mesa Mall in Claire’s Court.

The event will feature interactive activities for children and valuable offers for adults, all designed to make the transition into the academic routines a little easier.

The local sponsor this year is Creative Avenues, a youth studio that strives to instill creativity and exposure to the arts in a nurturing and supportive environment. Creative Avenues offers dance classes, theatre projects, and more.

Juniper Ridge has openings


Juniper Ridge Community School, School District 51’s newest public charter school, will open its doors Aug. 12 at its temporary home in Canyon View Vineyard Church, 736 24 1/2 Road.

The school will offer kindergarten through sixth grade, using Waldorf methods to educate its students.

Juniper Ridge is close to its enrollment capacity and is continuing to accept applications for its few remaining openings.
