■ Lauren Polson of Crawford graduated in December with a bachelor’s degree in communication from Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.
■ Melanie Mosinski of Grand Junction was named to the fall 2013 semester dean’s list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
■ Wayne Starr of Rifle was named to the fall 2013 semester dean’s list at the Rochester Institute of Technology’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences in Rochester, N.Y.
■ Katherine Marie Schwenke of Grand Junction and Clare Margaret James of Delta were named to the fall 2013 semester dean’s list at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
■ Area students were named to the fall 2013 dean’s list at Arizona State University in Tempe. They are Jenna Beamer of Ridgway, Lauren Christensen of Craig, Lauren Polson of Crawford, Stacey Sjoblom of Moab, Utah, and Clarissa Cooper, Kelsey Jull, Amanda Summers and Ashley Whitesides, all of Grand Junction.

■ Baily Bonet Braun, a fourth-grade student at Graham Mesa Elementary School in Rifle, won first place in the Colorado Council of the International Reading Association’s annual Colorado Young Writers’ Award contest.
Her short story, “The Disastrous Antidote,” was selected from entries submitted in the Upper Primary third- and fourth-grade writers’ category.
Braun was honored at the Young Writers’ Luncheon on Feb. 8, in conjunction with the organization’s state conference in Denver.
