■ Virginia Barak of Grand Junction was named to the fall 2012 dean’s list at the College of Arts and Sciences at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

■ Vincent Castellini of Grand Junction was named to the fall 2012 semester dean’s list at Emerson College in Boston.

■ Jheri Stelzer of Cedaredge was named to the fall 2012 semester dean’s list at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

■ Lauren Karp was named to the fall 2012 semester dean’s list at the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

■ Timothy Saro of Grand Junction, a 2010 graduate of Grand Junction High School, was named to the fall 2012 semester honor list in the program of Environmental Design at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

■ Clare Margaret James of Delta was named to the fall 2012 semester dean’s list at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

Scholarships open for Delta, Montrose

The Willson Education Fund of the Western Colorado Community Foundation will award two to four renewable scholarships in 2013 to graduates from public high schools in Delta and Mesa counties who are good students with financial need.

These scholarships can be used for any course of study at a two- or four-year institution anywhere in the U.S. The amount will vary depending on each recipient’s individual circumstances.

Information about eligibility guidelines, deadlines and application requirements for 2013–14 scholarships is available at http://www.wc-cf.org, or by calling Cindy Rhodes at 243-3767.

Persons interested in establishing scholarship funds are also encouraged to contact the Community Foundation.

Loma Elementary plans 5K fundraiser

 

Loma Elementary School will have a 5K run fundraiser at 9 a.m. March 9 at the Little Salt Wash Park , 1135 18 Road, in Fruita.

Funds go for playground equipment, and the race is a Dr. Seuss- inspired theme of “Oh The Places You’ll Go.” Dr. Seuss attire is encouraged for the racers. 

Preregistration is $15 until March 7 and $20 after. Day of the race registration will be from 7:30–8:30 a.m. Preregistered runners can pick up their packets and runners can still preregister from 
4–6 p.m. March 7 at Loma Elementary, 1360 13 Road. The first 100 registered racers are guaranteed a T-shirt.

A fun run for children will follow the 5K. Cost of the fun run is $5. Registration can be sent to and picked up at Loma Elementary School.
