$150,000 in scholarships

The Western Colorado Community Foundation offers college and vocational school scholarships from 16 different funds for the 2014–15 school year. 

About $150,000 will be awarded to assist students from the Western Slope. Applications, which are due March 15, can be found on the foundation’s website,

■ Allison Rippy of Glenwood Springs was named to the fall 2013 semester dean’s list at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

■ Ashleigh Jean Ellis, a 2005 graduate of Fruita Monument High School, received a bachelor’s degree in marketing with a concentration in international business on Dec. 15 from Metropolitan State University of Denver.

■ Woody Seagren of Grand Junction was named to the fall 2013 semester dean’s list at Harding University in Searcy, Ark.

■ Haley Miller of Glenwood Springs was named to the fall 2013 dean’s list at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Ark.

■ Lauren B. Labonde of Fruita was named to the fall 2013 dean’s list at Park University in Parkville, Mo.

Caprock open enrollment


Caprock Academy’s kindergarten open enrollment for the 2014–15 school year begins Feb. 10.  Forms will be available Jan. 30. Completed packets will be accepted Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. in the administration office with the exception of Presidents’ Day, Feb. 17. 

Open enrollment ends at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 27. The lottery, which is open to the public, is scheduled for 4 p.m. March 4 at the school, 714 24 1/2 Road.

Enrollment for first through eighth grade begins Feb. 10 and will continue through Jan. 23, 2015. Ninth- through 11th-grade enrollment begins Feb. 10, 2014, and continues through Oct. 1.

Caprock Academy is a tuition-free public charter school with the exception of full-time kindergarten, which has a monthly tuition of $300. The school focuses on the classical education methodology, core knowledge curriculum and the importance of character education. For information, call 243-1771 or visit
