Study ranks Colo. lowest in obesity

DENVER — A new study ranks Colorado as the least obese state in the nation.

Two public health groups, the Trust for America’s Health (TFAH) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, released a study today which says that Colorado had an obesity rate of 19.8 percent.

However, the good news is relative because the nation overall has been growing more obese. Back in 1995, Colorado’s current rate would have been the highest obesity rate in the nation.

The study looked for the first time at state-by-state statistics over the last two decades.

No state decreased its level of obesity, which is defined as a body mass index of 30 or more. The body mass index is a measurement based on weight and height.
