Unused July 4 fireworks to light up sky after Rockies game

Even a fireworks show is better later than never.

The Independence Day fireworks, postponed because of the critical fire danger in July, have been rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 2, following the Grand Junction Rockies game at Suplizio Field.

The Fourth of July display was halted after city officials conceded that the extremely dry conditions in the area and the Pine Ridge Fire that was burning near De Beque did not make for a happy celebration.

The rescheduled display will be at 9 p.m. Sunday or as soon as the Rockies game has a final score. Seating in the stadium will be for GJ Rockies ticket holders only, however the public is invited to take lawn chairs or blankets to Lincoln Park to watch the display.

Go to gjcity.org or call 244-1507 for information.
