Chevron in June presented $15,000 to Riverside Education Center for its tutoring and robotics programs as part of the company’s focus on education. Members of Girl Scout Troop 2214 from Holy Family Catholic School collected gently used prescription glasses and cases for a community service project they called “Girls for Glasses.” They donated hundreds of glasses to the Fruitvale Lions Club, which will have them cleaned, refurbished and sent all over the world to those in need. Grand Mesa Chorus Sweet Adelines awarded Sophia “Belle” Weathers with a $1,000 vocal music scholarship to Colorado Mesa University. Sophia will perform with the chorus at its Sept. 13 concert.
