Reunions, picnics and open houses — oh my.

The cooler weather of September makes the perfect setting for outdoor social events. I have received a plethora of notices and reminders regarding upcoming reunions, picnics and gatherings and have included them in Your Town this week.

Put on your ruby red slippers (or sneakers will do) and take a peek to see if any of these are for you:

Men Again Domestic Violence is seeking donations to help pay for the phone line costs for its hotline, as well as advertising.

MADV has maintained a hotline for 10 years in an effort to offer relief and preventive measures to men.

Women and youth have also called in on the hotline. In its first year, 60 calls were received. In the past year, there were an estimated 460. Costs for the hotline and getting the word out are $3,000 yearly.

Volunteers are also needed to serve on MADV’s board that meets monthly.

If you can help in any way, send donations to Men Against Domestic Violence, Box 100, Whitewater, 81527.

During September, Habitat for Humanity Mesa County will collect non-perishable food items to benefit Food Bank of the Rockies.

The Food Bank of the Rockies helps stock the shelves of new Habitat for Humanity homeowners on their home dedication days.

Drop off donated items at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Alpine Bank branches in Clifton, downtown, Horizon Drive and Mesa Mall, and at the Redlands United Methodist Church.

The food items will be donated to the food bank on Oct. 4 in honor of World Habitat Day.

Call 255-9850 for more information.
