$100,000 bond for child assault suspect
A 41-year-old Grand Junction man was being held on a $100,000 cash-only bond at the Mesa County Jail on Friday on suspicion of sex assault on a child and related charges.
Bruce Paul Anthony Montgomery was arrested after an investigation into photographs contained on a flash drive allegedly depicting Montgomery’s genitalia next to the hand and mouth of a sleeping child, according to an arrest affidavit.
Other images of suspected child pornography were also recorded on the drive, court records charge.
The images came to light after a woman went “snooping” through Montgomery’s belongings, which were stowed at a house he was sharing with another man and two children.
“When (the woman) went looking through Bruce’s stuff, she found a sock in his top drawer” which contained the drive, the affidavit said.
After being shown the images, Montgomery’s roommate texted him and ordered him to leave their Bear Dance Drive residence immediately.
When Montgomery asked why, the roommate told him about the photos.
Montgomery and all his belongings were gone when the roommate returned to the address.
Later the same day, the roommate met with the mother of a child depicted in the photographs and showed her the images. The mother confirmed the images were of her daughter.
The mother was also able to identify other images in the photos that linked the alleged sex assault to Montgomery.
He was booked into Mesa County Jail on suspicion of two counts of sex assault on a child, and other charges.
