Construction begins on Walter Walker’s Avalon Theatre, and the Federal Building at 4th and Rood opens. D.W. Griffiths’, Tarzan of the Apes premiers and the US Navy boat “Cyclops” disappears in the Bermuda Triangle. President Woodrow Wilson declares all breweries to be shut down to save grain for the war effort, and the Wednesday Music Club is founded in Grand Junction. Daylight Saving Time is enacted and the 1918 influenza epidemic kills more people worldwide than WWI.
