The Hoel-Ross Business College, originally located in Plateau City, was renamed Ross Business College with the retirement of S.C. Hoel. Marion Fletcher, longtime assistant to Daily Sentinel publisher Walter Walker, graduated from Ross, a school with extraordinarily high standards.
On the other end of the business spectrum, the first Grand Valley woman was arrested for bootlegging by Dry Agent Trimbell and Sheriff Joe Collier. She and her youngest child were sent to jail — not that the tot was guilty of peddling booze, but it needed to be near its mother.
