120 years: 1929
This year goes down in history as one of ups and downs.
The Royal Gorge Bridge goes up across the Arkansas River near Canon City, and the crash on Wall Street sends stock prices tumbling a record 68 points in October. Earlier in the year, the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre brought down seven rival gangsters in Chicago.
In Grand Junction, the sign goes up on the Mercantile Building at 546 Main St. for S.H. Kress & Co, a dime store.
