120 years: 1949

Civic pride runs high in 1949 as Grand Junction gets a new City Hall, the VA Hospital is officially dedicated and a new airport terminal is constructed at Walker Field.

Lincoln Park looks spiffy with its new 2,300-seat stadium and the Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad starts its California Zephyr service.

Daily Sentinel publisher Preston Walker is named Colorado’s outstanding newspaper editor and KREX-TV founder Rex Howell helps establish the Colorado Broadcasters Association.
