2010 foreclosures nearly triple in Mesa County
Nearly three times as many Mesa County homes completed the foreclosure process in 2010 than did in 2009, and the number of homes that at least started the foreclosure process in 2010 increased 30 percent year-over-year.
The Colorado Division of Housing reported Thursday that 1,672 Mesa County homes began the foreclosure process with an initial filing in 2010, while 980 Mesa County homes completed the process by being sold at auction or returned to a lender.
In 2009, there were 1,290 foreclosure filings in the county and 359 foreclosure sales.
Mesa County was one of 30 Colorado counties to have more foreclosure filings in 2010 than in 2009 and one of 48 counties to have more foreclosure sales than the previous year.
There was some good news to glean from foreclosure reports on the fourth quarter.
Filings dipped 5 percent year-over-year in the year’s final quarter to 454, while foreclosure sales grew by 14.6 percent to 180 in Mesa County.
Comparing the third quarter to the fourth quarter of 2010, local filings increased in the final quarter by just three filings, while sales dipped by 84.
The fourth quarter had the largest number of filings of any quarter in 2010 in Mesa County, but it had the smallest number of sales among all four quarters.
