23,171 ballots already cast in county

Nearly a third of active voters in Mesa County had cast ballots by Thursday, elections officials said.

In all, officials accepted 23,171 ballots, or 30.46 percent of the county’s 76,075 active voters.

Mesa County voters have turned out in large numbers in the past two presidential elections, with 92 percent turnout in 2004 and 2008.

Voters also can cast paper ballots or vote on touch-screen machines during the same times at the Grand Junction and Fruita locations, as well as at the county’s road and bridge shop in Clifton, 3202 C 1/2 Road; at the Mesa County Fairgrounds Building C, 2785 U.S. Highway 50; and at the Goodwill Retail Center, 630 24 1/2 Road.
