2 art shows slated for First Friday

If the weather outside is frightful, head inside to check out these art shows, which will be quite delightful.

Here are two First Friday Art events taking place Friday, Dec. 3:

“The Giving Tree,” a book by Shel Silverstein, is the inspiration for a new art show and concert at 6 p.m. at The Raw Canvas, 755 Rood Ave.

The Giving Walls, with the theme of giving back in a big way, was created by gallery owner Justin Nordine and other art members of The Raw Canvas and will feature an auction of previous work with proceeds going to three local charities: Brett’s Battle, Donations for Delaney and The Latimer House.

Along with the fine art auction, several local musicians and groups will perform acoustic music.

The silent art auction will be from 6–10 p.m. There will be hot chocolate and cider for a donation.

Call 985-9649 for information.

The Art Center will host a First Friday art reception from 7–9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at 1803 N. Seventh St., featuring a variety of exhibits.

Artist introductions and a gallery talk will start the evening at 6:30 p.m.

Opening exhibits are “Hot Pots — Wet Paint,” works by ceramicist Terry Shepherd and painter Sara Alyn Oakley; “Takin’ It To The Street,” works by The Outsiders; and “Investigate Architecture,” an AIA Member Architecture Exhibit with works by local American Institute of Architects members.

The reception is free and open to the public and will have a cash bar with music provided by Morgann Means.
