Two in clerk’s office announce candidacy

Two Republicans announced their bids Friday for Mesa County offices.

Clerk and Recorder Janice Rich declared her candidacy for county treasurer, which is being vacated by the term-limited Monika Todd.

Sheila Reiner, elections director in the clerk’s office, announced her run to replace Rich. The two made their announcements to about 140 Republicans at the party’s luncheon at Two Rivers Convention Center.

Rich said she planned to retain the treasurer’s staff put together by Todd and “follow in her footsteps.”

Reiner, who has served in the clerk’s office for more than nine years, said she wanted to support the recording function of the office as well as run reliable elections.

“Elections must be accurate, auditable and trustworthy,” Reiner said.

Reiner is a nationally and state-certified elections official.
