2 Orchard Mesa trails to close during work
Portions of a pair of Orchard Mesa trails will be closed for at least a couple of days while construction crews install some underground electrical lines.
Hiking, biking and horseback riding access to the Old Spanish and Gunnison River Bluffs trails will be limited. Workers are laying electrical lines from the Mesa County Landfill to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks along the Gunnison River, according to Mesa County Solid Waste Director Cameron Garcia.
From the 28 1/2 Road trail head, the closure begins approximately two miles in on the Old Spanish Trail and approximately 3 1/2 miles in on the Gunnison River Bluffs Trail. Users will be able to connect to each trail and loop back to the trail head.
From the Coffman Road trail head, the closure begins approximately 1 1/2 miles in on the Old Spanish Trail and approximately three miles in on the Gunnison River Bluffs Trail. Users won’t be able to connect to either trail and must turn back from each closure point.
The closure is scheduled to last up to two weeks, although Garcia said crews told him they could finish their work in a matter of a few days.
