The trees may not be sporting autumn color, yet, but Fruita is ready for fall.

The 97th annual Alpine Bank Fruita Fall Festival with the theme “Happy Trails” is Friday through Sunday, Sept. 23–25.

There will be more than 150 vendors selling foods, arts and crafts when the festival booths and carnival open from noon to 10 p.m. Friday in Circle Park. The beer garden will be open from 4–10 p.m. Friday.

Join the street dance with Exit 42 from 7–10 p.m. Friday at Circle Park or have a good laugh at Comedy Night, from 7–8:30 p.m. on the Civic Center Pavilion Stage.

Events continue Saturday with a dose of reality at the annual bed race. This year’s theme is “Reality TV Shows” and the race will get under way at 9 a.m. Find good spot to view the parade that will begin at 10 a.m. and the rubber duck races that will begin at 11 a.m., sponsored by Grand Valley Young Professionals. Proceeds from the duck races benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

On Saturday, the festival, carnival and vendor booths will be open from noon to 10 p.m. Music will be on the Pavilion Stage at Civic Center Park and the Circle Park Stage from noon to 10 p.m. and the beer garden will be open from 4–10 p.m.

For those with a recipe they are eager to test with the judges, the baking and canning contest will be from 3-5:30 p.m. at Family Health West Nursing Home.

Saturday’s activities will close with a street dance with Halden Wofford and the Hi Beams at 7 p.m. in Circle Park.

The final day of the festival will feature Cowboy Church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The carnival and vendor booths, as well as the beer garden and music, will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will end Sunday with the Youth Pet Show from 1–2 p.m., and the Youth Talent Show from 2:30–4 p.m.
