Accident kills one, injures 2
A Mesa woman died and two passengers were injured early Friday after a sport utility vehicle rolled down an embankment.
The accident was reported shortly after midnight.
The Colorado State Patrol said Courtni J. Bieser, 23, was driving east on County Road 330E, about 22 miles east of Collbran, when her 1996 Nissan Pathfinder lost control on a curve, went off the road and rolled multiple times down an embankment, ending up about 50 feet from the road.
Bieser, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
A front seat passenger, Joseph Bieser, 22, of Mesa, was wearing a seat belt and was treated at the scene for minor injuries, troopers said.
Hannah Etcheverry, 18, of Collbran, was in the back seat and was thrown from the vehicle. She also was not wearing a seat belt.
The State Patrol said she was transported to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, but staff at the hospital said Etcheverry was not admitted at the facility.
The Sentinel was unable to attain her condition Friday.
Troopers said the Pathfinder was going “well above” the posted 30 mph speed limit.
