A School District 51 representative said Thursday that a Fruita 8/9 teacher remains on paid administrative leave from the job following his arrest Tuesday on allegations he asked for topless photos from multiple high-school age female students.

It wasn’t clear if that status will change in the near future.

“These are very serious allegations and, if true, it’s unacceptable and would be grounds for dismissal,” said District 51 spokeswoman Christy McGee. “More work needs to be done.”

Randy Majors, 58, of Grand Junction, has been teaching in Mesa County schools since 1994 and is currently paid $56,740 annually, McGee said. Majors walked out of the Mesa County Jail Thursday after posting a $20,000 surety bond.

Majors was jailed Tuesday on a Fruita Police Department warrant listing three counts of sexual exploitation of a child and five counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child.

McGee has said Majors went on leave Nov. 4, which was three days after the mother of a 16-year-old girl reported the allegations to the Fruita Police Department.

An arrest warrant affidavit identifies at least four girls, ranging in age from 15 to 17, who exchanged messages with Majors over several months.

Majors, who surrendered his laptop computer to police investigators on Nov. 2, admitted he’d asked several girls for pictures of their “boobs,” the affidavit said.

The affidavit describes one girl, 17, who sent Majors a photo at his request.

“(Girl) is wearing a tank top and you can see a small amount of cleavage in the picture,” an investigator wrote in the affidavit.

The affidavit alleges Majors continued to solicit topless photos days after Fruita police had seized his laptop computer and after he was initially questioned by police in the investigation.
